Man charged in copper wire theft

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man was charged with stealing copper wire from a home in the city.

Christopher Ryan Perrone, 20, of 303 1/2 S. Phillips St., faces charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and possessing instruments of crime. Police said he allegedly took copper wires from a Butler Avenue house Oct. 18.

A woman told police she had been on her porch when she saw Perrone standing outside with pliers and touching electrical wires on the side of her home.

According to police, when apprehended, Perrone told officers he had heard the sound of an electrical arc and walked closer to investigate.

Perrone also told police copper wires inside a bag he was carrying had been given to him by his father, they said.

Officers also found side cutting pliers in the bag. Police checked the house and found no sign of electrical burns.
