Volant man gets probation for sexual assault

NEW CASTLE — A Volant man who pleaded guilty to indecent assault has been sentenced to two years probation.

Robert Charles Swaney, 73, of Route 288, Volant, was sentenced by Lawrence County President Judge Dominick Motto.

He also was sentenced to pay costs of prosecution, to undergo intensive sex offender therapy and to provide a DNA sample.

Swaney will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law for the next 15 years.

Earlier this year, Pennsylvania state police charged Swaney with two counts of aggravated indecent assault without consent and one charge of indecent assault without consent.

According to court records, an acquaintance of Swaney’s said she had been sexually assaulted Dec. 24 at Swaney’s house.

Police said Swaney had admitted to them he had had sexual relations with and had touched the woman inappropriately on various occasions.
