NEW CASTLE —
The intersection of Sampson Street at Grant Street in New Castle closed today for road improvements.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that work is beginning today to improve the intersection with the Route 224 (State Street) connecting ramps.
Closings include Sampson Street (Business Route 422) from Grant Street to Connector Street, Grant Street at the Sampson Street intersection and the ramps from Grant and Sampson streets to Route 224. The closings are expected to last through mid-September.
The construction is part of a $5.22 million project on Route 224 from Jefferson Street in the city to Wilson Drive in Union Township.
Following is a posted detour by PennDOT:
•Eastbound on Business Route 422
•Take I-376 eastbound
•Take Route 224 State Street (Exit 13)
•Turn left onto Route 224
•Follow to intersection of Sampson Street
Westbound traffic on Route 224 is the same detour in the opposite direction.
Drivers are advised to use caution, slow down and allow extra time when traveling through the area.
