Man jailed on assault charges

NEW CASTLE — A Buffalo, N.Y., man is in the Lawrence County jail after he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend.

Union Township police said Marlin D. Scott, 19, also ripped her clothing, stole her jewelry and cash, broke two televisions and a stand and tore up the woman’s South Atlantic Avenue home.

Police said the incident occurred around 4 a.m. Thursday. When they arrived at the house, the woman told police Scott repeatedly had told her he was going to kill her.

She told officers she and her brother had picked up Scott, who had gotten into an argument with the brother. The woman said Scott had poured pop on her brother’s head.

At her house, Scott started tearing her clothing off and ordered her to give him all her jewelry, she said. He then hit her in the head, arms and back with his hands and feet, and took $28 from her clothing and the rings off her hands.

The woman told police she was able to break free and run to a neighbor’s house to call police.

Police arrested Scott and retrieved the money and rings.

Scott is charged with simple assault, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, theft, receiving stolen property and harassment.

He was arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie, who set his bond at $5,000.
