Allegations result in principal on leave

NEW CASTLE — New Castle Junior High School principal Robert Razzano is on administrative leave with pay.

Meanwhile, New Castle police said they are investigating a reported incident at the junior high involving an employee.

Police Chief Bobby Salem said the incident does not involve a student and, contrary to rumors, no one was escorted from the school by the police.

He said the investigation is in the beginning stages and police are conducting interviews. He declined further comment.

Superintendent John J. Sarandrea, in an email yesterday, said Razzano has been placed on administrative leave with pay during an ongoing investigation.

Carol Morell, senior high assistant principal, is assuming the day-to-day operations of the junior high school in his absence, Sarandrea said.

On Wednesday night, Sarandrea said he is “not at liberty” to comment and noted, “I’m obligated not to comment.”

Multiple attempts to contact other school officials for information or comment, either by phone or email, were unsuccessful. Those included Razzano.

His wife, Barbara Razzano, who is a member of the school board, was reached by phone yesterday. She said she is not addressing the issue, adding she was at work.
