NEW CASTLE — A motorcyclist who was killed in an accident Sunday night in Mahoning Township has been identified as Rodney J. Suszynski.

Suszynski, 40, of the Edinburg area, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga at 8:46 p.m. Noga said an autopsy was to be performed Monday in Beaver County.

Township police said Suszynski had been eastbound on Route 224, just east of the Churchill Road overpass, around 8 p.m. when, for an undetermined reason, he left the highway on the south berm.

The motorcycle hit the guard rails and veered back on the highway. He attempted to regain control of the motorcycle, but failed and was thrown from the vehicle onto the road, police said. The motorcycle continued east without the driver, coming to rest under the guard rails on the north side of the berm.

Route 224 was closed for about five and a half hours. Police from North Beaver, Union and Poland townships as well as state police and the Mahoning Township Fire Department assisted.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with any information regarding the crash is asked to contact Mahoning Township police through the 911 dispatch center at (724) 656-9300.
