Motorcyclist hurt in Union crash

NEW CASTLE — A motorcyclist was injured in an accident in Union Township Wednesday.

According to township police, William Pinkerton, 47, of Union Township, was southbound on Old Youngstown Road just before 2 p.m. and stopped at the West State Street intersection.

At that time, police said, the bike was hit by a vehicle operated by Yvonne Elardo-Pears, 73, of Neshannock Township, who was eastbound on State Street and attempting a left turn onto Old Youngstown Road.

Elardo-Pears told police she had been blinded by the sun when making the turn and did not see the motorcycle.

Officers said Pinkerton suffered a knee injury and was taken to Jameson Hospital by ambulance. His motorcycle was towed.
