Man charged with BB gun destruction

NEW CASTLE — A West Side man has been arrested for allegedly firing a BB gun at a car downtown.

New Castle police have charged Chris Shaner, 18, of 315 Bell Ave. with criminal mischief.

Officers were called to the parking lot of a restaurant off West Washington Street regarding a man who had been looking into the windows of cars. They found broken-out windows and scratched paint on two vehicles in the lot that apparently had been shot with a BB gun.

Another officer had stopped two men nearby, one of whom was Shaner. He said he had seen a BB gun lying about five feet away and Shaner had BBs in his pants pocket. The officer also found a bookbag with the name Chris on it and containing BBs and CO2 canisters for a BB gun.

Police said Shaner admitted to shooting out the car windows and apologized for it.
