NEW CASTLE —
New Castle police are investigating robbery and theft complaints filed by two senior citizens.
In both instances, the women reported money was stolen after playing bingo.
Police were called to the 100 block of Lee Avenue around 10:15 p.m. Friday. A 75-year-old woman reported she had been going home from bingo and was walking around her car when a man put his arm around her neck and grabbed her purse. She struggled with him but he got it from her and ran.
She said the purse contained a checkbook, a debit card and $50.
The police searched the area but did not find anyone fitting the description that she had given them.
Earlier in the week, a 70-year-old woman reported she had been leaving bingo at the American Legion hall on Falls Street when a woman approached her and said her car was out of gas and she had two children in the car.
The woman asked to use the driver’s cell phone and the driver said she gave her a ride to Skyview Towers and left her at the front of the building around 10:15 p.m.
She said the woman walked to the front door, then went around the building, and when the driver got home she noticed her wallet, containing $330 and various cards, was missing.
Police said they searched the area for the wallet but did not find it.
