NEW CASTLE —
Three separate traffic accidents on East Washington Street in a short time span kept New Castle police busy.
Traffic officer Chris Fabian said police dealt with seven crashes in the eight-hour shift on Wednesday. He said several of the people involved in the collisions complained that glare from the sun had obstructed their vision.
Information was not yet available on all of the incidents.
At 7:48 a.m. Wednesday, police said, the vehicle of Nichole Murphy, 21, of Gary Lane, Edinburg, traveling on East Washington Street near Croton Avenue, hit the rear of the car of Elaine Laurienzo, 58, of Kittery Ridge Drive.
Laurienzo was treated at Jameson Hospital then released.
Police said that at 7:57 a.m. the car of Tera Gunn, 31, of Assid Lane, driving on East Washington Street near Mill Street, hit the back of the car driven by Christine Donston, 90, of Florine Lane, causing Donston’s vehicle to hit the rear of the car of Thomas Hanshaw, 47, of Conrad.
Police said Hanshaw sustained a minor injury. He was treated at Jameson Hospital then released.
Also at 7:57 a.m., police said the car of Jamie Smith, 30, of Temple Avenue, hit the back of the car of Kylie Gierlach, 22, of Worthington Avenue. The impact pushed Gierlach’s car into the vehicle of Corey Shoup, 25, of Northview Avenue.
Police said no injuries were reported, but Gierlach’s vehicle was towed from the scene.
At the time of the crash, police said, all cars were eastbound on east Washington Street between Mill and East streets.
