Woman charged with ‘squatting,’ drugs

NEW CASTLE — An Ellwood City woman has been arrested for allegedly staying in an apartment not leased to her.

New Castle police said they seized a shotgun, suspected Xanax pills and crack cocaine and money from her when they went in to arrest her.

Police have charged Krystal Michell Chambers, 27, of 513 Park Ave.

Chambers was taken into custody around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday when police were contacted by the property manager of Westview Terrace, who said an apartment in the complex was occupied by someone who isn’t on the lease.

Police learned the tenant had moved two weeks prior, and Chambers, who is on the property’s no-trespassing list, was living in the apartment.

The manager had told police neighbors were complaining about heavy foot traffic there the previous few evenings.

Police found Chambers sleeping on a couch inside the apartment. She told them she knows she is on the no-trespassing list, and she was arrested for trespassing.

As officers conducted a safety search, they found a loaded shotgun on the bed and a plastic digital scale on the kitchen table.

While searching Chambers, they found she had three suspected Xanax pills, crack cocaine and $71 in her purse.

She is charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession, two counts of drug paraphernalia and a one count of defiant trespass.

She was arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie, who set her bond at $15,000.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed “unprecedented” legislation yesterday to expand gun rights in his state. Good idea?

Yes. Expanding the scope of where people can carry guns can help halt violent crimes and make those places safer.
No. Carrying guns into bars and schools is NEVER a good idea. I think it will lead to more violence.
Not sure, but I don’t plan to visit Georgia any time soon.
