NEW CASTLE —
A motorcyclist who collided with a car in Union Township suffered a broken leg.
The accident occurred just before 8 p.m. Wednesday on West State Street at Wilson Road.
Union Township police said Stephen Carbone, 20, of 107 S. Lee Ave. was westbound on State Street and could not stop in time to avoid hitting a sport utility vehicle that had turned west from Wilson Drive.
Police said Carbone’s bike left 120 feet of skid marks before striking the rear quarter panel of the sport utility vehicle driven by Aliasghar Agheli, 62, of 526 Falcon St.
Agheli told police he had looked both ways before pulling out and one vehicle was under the traffic light and the other one to the right was far away, so he proceeded. As he got into the eastbound lane, he saw only a headlight and did not know where the motorcycle had come from, he told police.
Carbone’s helmet hit the side window of the sport utility vehicle and broke it.
Carbone was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, where he was to undergo surgery for his leg, which was severely broken in at least two places, police said.
His condition was unavailable from the hospital Thursday.
No other injuries were reported, and the sport utility vehicle was driven away.
