Train strikes vehicle stuck on the tracks

NEW CASTLE — No one was injured in a car-train collision in New Beaver borough, state police reported.

According to troopers, the accident occurred after a vehicle became stuck on railroad tracks near Larchwood Drive about 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police said Jody McCarty of New Galilee mistakenly turned off the road and became stuck at train tracks. She observed an approaching train and ran free of the vehicle before the collision.

However, McCarty’s vehicle sustained severe damage from the impact by the Northfolk Southern engine.
