NEW CASTLE — Two miniature Schnauzers were taken from a South Jefferson Street backyard.

The dogs’ owner called New Castle police Monday to report the theft. She said she has been searching for the dogs since they went missing Thursday but called officers after learning that another person’s dogs had been stolen about the same time.

The owner said the dogs are a 10-year-old male named Shilo. He is light gray, weighs about 18 pounds and when last seen was wearing a green collar with an expired Lawrence County dog license. He is valued at $440.

The second dog is Harley, a 9-year-old female with a salt-and-pepper coat, weighting 13 pounds and valued at $550.

The owner said a neighbor told her someone driving an unfamiliar vehicle had taken the dogs from the yard, but no description was provided.
