NEW CASTLE —
A man wanted in Butler County on drug charges now faces charges in Lawrence County.
State police have filed additional charges against Paul Alan McConnell, 24, whose last known address was in Slippery Rock, after an incident that occurred at a home on Route 208 in Washington Township.
According to documents filed in the office of District Judge David Rishel Friday, McConnell — who is wanted on drug and theft charges in Butler County — escaped from state police officers from a Washington Township house July 10.
Officers said they had received information that McConnell was staying at the home, where he was allegedly selling heroin and pills. They approached the house on an undercover basis, and asked a woman outside if McConnell was present.
“Do you want me to get him?” the woman asked officers and went inside. She emerged a short time later, police said, and began to ask more questions. Eventually, one of the officers showed his badge and demanded McConnell come out.
The woman walked back into the house then returned, telling officers McConnell had jumped out a window and left.
Officers began to yell at the house, demanding McConnell show himself. They reported they had heard noises inside and eventually saw McConnell through a first-floor window, where he had removed a screen.
One officer pointed his gun at McConnell, but he moved away. Then a child appeared in the window while the officer was still aiming his weapon.
Officers said they heard breaking glass and, fearing for the safety of the child, started to go inside. However, they said, they saw McConnell jump from a second-floor window and run off. Police went after McConnell, but were unable to locate him.
As a result of the incident, additional warrants have been issued against McConnell for escape and recklessly endangering another person, on the allegation his conduct caused the police trooper to point his weapon at a child.
