NEW CASTLE —
Three people were taken to Jameson Hospital following a two-vehicle crash last night in Slippery Rock Township.
Some of the victims were trapped in the wreckage, and it took volunteer firefighters about a half-hour to extricate them. The accident happened at 5:40 p.m. on Route 422 near Copper Road, just as temperatures were falling and snow in Lawrence County was causing icy roads around the area.
According to state police, Jennifer McBeth, 29, of New Castle was westbound on Route 422 when her 2002 Ford F250 began to slide on the snow-covered roadway. It traveled sideways into the eastbound lanes and struck the passenger side of a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Kathryn M Knaus, 24, of Beaver Falls. Both vehicles came to rest on the south shoulder of the highway.
McBeth and 25-year-old Brad V. Hook of Grove City, a passenger in Knaus’ vehicle, were taken by Medevac Ambulance to Jameson Hospital with what police termed minor injuries. Knaus suffered “moderate injury,” according to police, and was taken to Jameson as well.
A helicopter was called to transport victims, but because of weather conditions it could not fly.
None of the victims’ conditions were available last night.
