Work scheduled to repair slide

NEW CASTLE — Work to repair a rock slide on Turkey Hill Road in Shenango Township will begin Monday, weather permitting.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, work will occur between Chewton/West Pittsburg Road and Fletcher Hill Road.

Turkey Hill Road will be closed to traffic in the slide area around-the-clock beginning at 7 a.m. Monday through late April.

The road will be open for local traffic only. Local residents are encouraged to find alternate routes.

Through traffic will be detoured using the following routes:

Northbound — Take westbound Route 288 in Chewton and turn right onto Route 18. Then continue north to Route 168 and make a right. Follow Route 168 east to Union Valley Road, turn right and travel east to Turkey Hill Road.

Southbound — The same detour in the opposite direction.

PennDOT said motorists should use caution and be aware of changing traffic when driving through the area. Allow extra time and consider alternate routes.

The contractor is Allison Park Contractors.
