NEW CASTLE —
Local narcotics officers converged on two New Castle houses yesterday, but drugs they were looking for were scarce.
Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa said the raids were held simultaneously to test whether officers could hit multiple locations at the same time.
The New Castle police special response team, in concert with the District Attorney’s special investigative unit, served a sealed search warrant at 6:45 a.m. at 410 Long Ave. There they arrested the residents, Frederick Catron, 51, and his wife, Marcy Catron, 44.
Both are charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a small amount of marijuana, use or possession of drug paraphernalia and conspiracy for intent to deliver.
According to District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa, the officers searched the house using a drug-sniffing dog and found 16 grams of marijuana that was packaged in individual bags and drug paraphernalia. They confiscated $171 in cash.
Other city officers and members of the District Attorney’s special investigative unit served a separate search warrant at 6:15 a.m. on a house at 616 Raymond St.
Lamancusa said the officers were there looking for a suspected supply of pills. The resident, 49-year-old Carol Jean Hoon, allegedly had sold a quantity of pills. She told police she used the money to pay her bills, Lamancusa said.
Officers seized $120 in cash from her house.
Hoon is charged with delivery of a controlled substance, and possession.
Lamancusa said Hoon’s charges and the sealed search warrant were based upon previous drug purchases that narcotics officers had made using confidential informants.
