NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man doing home improvements and an alleged accomplice have been charged with taking jewelry from a client.

Daniel L. Ramsey, 31, of 512 Fairmont Ave., is charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and use or possession of drug paraphernalia. He is in the Lawrence County jail on a $1,500 bond.

Police have also charged Jordan Perretti, 30, of 840 Lathrop St. He is charged with receiving stolen property. Police filed charges against Perretti Wednesday alleging he sold five rings to a local business.

New Castle police said they encountered Ramsey about 10:45 a.m. April 5 and took him into custody, knowing he was wanted on warrants. While searching him, officers discovered three gold rings as well as a capped syringe in his pocket.

Police said they learned Ramsey was working for a local contractor and was employed to make improvements at a North Hill house. They contacted the homeowner who confirmed that about 13 rings are missing from her jewelry box. The victim could not tell police the last time all of her rings were in her jewelry box.

Police said the victim also told them the construction business owner took her to a local business where she identified some of her missing jewelry. Police said they are aware the business owner purchased five rings she had identified as stolen, and returned them to her.
