NEW CASTLE — A Rochester man has been charged in the Nov. 16 shooting death of an Enon Valley resident.

Ellwood City police charged Leon Platt, 26, of 474 Oregon Ave. with murder of the first degree and criminal homicide in the death of Richard Hogue, 28.

Hogue was shot at the Walnut Ridge housing complex on Loop Street, Ellwood City, around 1:45 a.m. Nov. 16. He was pronounced dead about 2:30 a.m. at Ellwood City Hospital, according to police.

Platt was charged with another shooting that had occurred about 1 a.m. that day and was jailed in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Last week, police said the two shootings could be related, but they had not charged anyone in Hogue’s death.

According to police, a woman said she had witnessed the shooting and told them Platt had shot Hogue after a verbal argument. She said Hogue had been seated on a couch and when he stood up, Platt pulled a handgun out of his pants pocket and shot him.

The witness said she stayed to help Hogue and called 911.

Another person told police he also had witnessed Platt shoot Hogue.

In addition to murder and criminal homicide in the Hogue case, Platt is charged with three counts of endangering another person, illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and giving false identification to a law enforcement officer.

Platt was arraigned before District Judge Jerry G. Cartwright and remains in jail without bail.
