NEW CASTLE —
New Castle police are still seeking answers about what led to a shooting at Crestview Gardens.
Police received a report that gunshots had been fired at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Cascade Street area.
When the officer arrived, he said, he heard 10 to 20 shots being fired in the distance. However, officers also were informed of a shooting on Booker Drive in the Harbor Heights neighborhood and left the Pin Oak Drive area to respond. They were immediately called back to 1108 Pin Oak Drive.
Police Chief Bobby Salem said there had been no shooting at Booker Drive and officers are investigating why they had received that call.
On Pin Oak Drive, found Gabrael Gorczycki, 35, on the floor behind her kitchen door. Officers said she had been shot in the right leg and foot.
According to police, an officer applied pressure to both areas to stop bleeding while waiting for an ambulance.
She was taken to Jameson Hospital, police said, then to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh where she was listed in serious condition Friday afternoon.
Police located and collected one slug and eight 0.40-caliber shell casings from outside 1108 Pin Oak Drive; 12 9 mm shell casings and eight 0.40-caliber shell casings were found in the parking lot and a bullet jacket was found in the living room.
Salem asks that anyone with information contact the police at (724) 656-3585.
