NEW CASTLE —
A 17-year-old armed with a toy gun has been charged as an adult in a North Hill robbery.
Mariek Payne, 17, of 1125 Booker Drive was arraigned before district Justice Melissa Amodie on charges of robbery, theft and terroristic threats. He remains in the Lawrence County jail on $15,000 bond.
New Castle police said Payne allegedly placed a handgun against the head of another in the 100 block of Park Avenue about 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday and forcibly took $5.30 from him.
Police were told that the man in a dark hooded sweatshirt also placed his gun against the stomach of a juvenile in the victim’s company while the youth also was searched for money.
Police said later, observed a man matching the description given them. While patting him down, the officer said he found what appeared to be a handgun but was “an accurate toy replica of a handgun.”
Police said the teen taken into custody was determined to be a juvenile and his father was notified.
Officers charged him as an adult at the order of District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa.
