East Sider facing theft charges

NEW CASTLE — An East Side man has been arrested for allegedly stealing $50 from a man in a convenience store.

Roger Nylander Traylor, 34, of 537 E. Washington St., is in the Lawrence County jail on $10,000 bond, facing charges of robbery, theft and receiving stolen property.

According to New Castle police, Traylor was outside a store on East Washington Street around 7:50 a.m. Friday and told police a man had stolen $100 from him.

However, the store manager told police Traylor had grabbed a $50 bill from the man at the counter.

The man said he does not know Traylor, but told police he had seen him in an alley behind the store on his way in. He said Traylor had accused him of stealing $100 from him and wanted the other $50.

Police viewed a surveillance video that shows the man walk to the counter with a can of pop and a bill in his hand. Traylor then walked into the store and spoke with him. When the man tried to hand the bill to the manager to pay for his drink, Traylor reached over the man’s shoulder and took the $50 bill, police said.
