Police: Woman ran from accident scene

NEW CASTLE — A North Hill woman is wanted for her involvement in an accident that occurred after she allegedly had taken narcotics.

New Castle police said 44-year-old Robyn McConahy of 433 Boyles Ave. ran from the scene of the collision.

According to officers, the accident occurred around 8:15 p.m. March 16 in the 400 block of Cascade Street. Police said McConahy, driving a silver Oldsmobile Alero, swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a black Honda Pilot head-on. Police later located McConahy and arrested her.

A witness told police she had come out of her house when she heard the crash and saw McConahy sitting in her car. The witness said she tried to detain McConahy, but she ran.

Police said they caught McConahy and returned her to the scene, but she could not answer questions and her speech was slurred.

She told police she had taken Xanax, a narcotic used to treat anxiety and panic disorder.

McConahy was taken to Jameson Hospital for a chemical test but she refused to sign the sheet of consent, police said, and was complaining of pain in her stomach and wrist.

The driver of the other vehicle, Amy Edwards, also was taken to Jameson Hospital and treated for broken ribs, police said. Children who were in Edwards’ vehicle were not injured.

McConahy was charged Wednesday with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, accidents involving serious bodily injury, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, defendants involving damage to attended vehicle or property, accidents involving personal injury, reckless driving, careless driving, driving on roads laned for traffic and driving on the right side of the road.

A warrant has been issued for her arrest.
