Man arrested after hitting school bus

NEW CASTLE — A man who hit a school bus yesterday allegedly was arrested for driving drunk and trying to punch a fireman.

New Castle police said seven elementary students and a monitor were on the bus when 54-year-old Donald Dean Watt of 10 S. Liberty St., driving a silver Pontiac Bonneville, hit the bus from behind, shortly before 4 p.m. on North Liberty Street at West Cherry Street.

A six-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with neck pain and the others were uninjured but examined by ambulance personnel at the scene.

Watt faces a slew of charges including aggravated assault, and is in the Lawrence County jail.
