NEW CASTLE — Criminal charges against a candidate for New Castle school board have been withdrawn.

Mark Panella, who also serves as the city’s acting fire chief, had been accused of receiving stolen property by the Union Township Police Department.

Police said he had purchased meat that had been stolen from Walmart for his business, Buzz and Rich’s Tavern on the city’s South Side.

All charges against two other men charged with Panella were withdrawn as well Wednesday, when a preliminary hearing in the case had been scheduled.
