Robbery suspect walks out of hospital

NEW CASTLE — An Edinburg man who walked out of Jameson Hospital  Monday morning is a suspect in a car theft.

This is in addition to a purse snatching and related crime spree for which he is facing charges.

Edward Palmer, 49, of 126 Twilight Mobile Home Park — who is facing multiple charges by Neshannock, Union and Shenango township police — was hospitalized over the weekend.

Union Township police had anticipated taking him into custody Monday morning and filing charges. However, officers said Palmer walked out of the hospital about 11:10 a.m., prior to their arrival.

Neshannock Township police said about 11:25 a.m., a man matching Palmer’s description walked up to Preston Motors at 1500 Wilmington Road and asked to see a 2005 black Chevy Cobalt.

Officers said a salesman had pulled the car around to show it to the man and told him to wait until he got a dealer’s license plate to put on the vehicle for a test drive.

When the salesman stepped away, police said, the man sped off with the vehicle.

Neshannock Township police said Monday Palmer also is the suspect in purse snatchings in Neshannock and Union townships Wednesday.

Neshannock police said Palmer had provided them with a signed confession that he had taken a purse from a 72-year-old woman at a Call’s Plaza business. The purse was recovered on Neshannock Avenue Extension.

Neshannock said they will charge Palmer with robbery, receiving stolen property, simple assault, driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.

Union and Shenango township police have also announced their intentions to file charges.

He could be facing more charges if it is determined he participated in the car theft at Preston Motors.
