NEW CASTLE — A Lawrence County woman is facing charges after her vehicle struck and killed a 15-year-old boy in Mercer County.

Killed in the accident was Austin J. Rife of Dayton, Ohio, according to Mercer County Coroner J. Bradley McGonigle. State police identified the driver as Brittany Ann Raskowsky, 25, of Grange Hall Road.

Police said Rife was fishing at a farm pond near Old Ash Road in Springfield Township at 11:45 p.m. Thursday with Stephani L. Rife, 37, of Kettering, Ohio, when both were hit by Raskowsky’s truck.

According to reports, Raskowsky was traveling south on Old Ash Road when her truck went off the left side into a pasture. The truck traveled 240 feet off the road, police said, and hit the Rifes.

Police said the Rifes were taken by ambulance to the Grove City Medical Center, where Austin Rife was pronounced dead at 4 a.m. Friday. McGonigle said he died of head and chest wounds.

Stephani Rife was treated for what police described as moderate injuries.

According to police, Raskowsky was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after the accident. She was later released to her family.

An investigation is continuing and police said additional charges are pending.
