Police say woman had drugs in jail

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle woman is accused of having pills hidden on her when she was admitted to jail.

The Lawrence County district attorney’s office has charged Eugena Marie Russo, 29, of 210 S. Cedar St.   with 28 counts of possession of a controlled substance while incarcerated.

According to the district attorney’s office, Russo had violated her parole from an unrelated offense. When she was taken to the Lawrence County jail on Thursday, a corrections officer while conducting a strip search found 28 blister packs of suspected Suboxone in Russo’s possession.

Suboxone is an opioid medication that is used to treat opiate addiction.

According to court records, Russo told jail officials in the strip search room that she was concealing the pills.

Her jail bond for the alleged offense was set at $10,000.
