City man jailed for alleged child rape

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man got more than money for an electronic notepad he sold at a flea market.

He got himself a stay in the Lawrence County jail for the alleged rape of a child.

A woman who bought the electronic notepad allegedly found photographs and videos of Donald A. Miller, 43, of 338 Laurel Blvd., engaging in various sexual acts with an 8-year-old girl.

New Castle police Thursday charged Miller with two counts of rape of a child, seven counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault of a person younger than 13, and photographing or filming or depicting on a computer the sex act of a child, and six counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child.

Following an investigation, Miller turned himself in to police and is being held on $150,000 bond.

New Castle police said they had learned about the alleged offenses when a woman who said she had bought an electronic notepad contacted them. She said she had paid $225 for it at an Ohio flea market to a seller who had told her he is from New Castle.

She told police he had removed the camera and SIM cards from it.

She said she had used the pad to take a picture of her daughter and, when she went into the camera folder, she found numerous photos and videos of what she believed was child pornography.

Police said she identified the man in the pictures and videos as the one from whom she had bought the notepad.

The police took custody of the pad and bought a battery charger for it to examine its contents. They said the device contained seven videos of Miller performing sexual acts on an 8-year-old girl.

Police searched records and Facebook to identify Miller. They served a search warrant at what they believed to be his home, but a woman there told police she had thrown Miller out a few days earlier.
