Woman accused of shaking baby

NEW CASTLE — A Darlington woman is facing multiple charges for allegedly injuring an infant by shaking the child.

Amy Jo Market, 29, was charged by Ellwood City police after officers were alerted by child welfare and medical personnel.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the office of District Judge Jerry Cartwright, police were contacted Oct. 15 regarding the condition of a 6-month-old male who was a patient at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The infant was suffering what were described as “skaken baby” injuries, including bleeding around the brain.

During the investigation, police said, Market at first denied shaking the baby, but later told them she had.

Charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person were filed against her.
