NEW CASTLE —
A South Side man is accused of allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman.
New Castle police have charged Joshua Lee Perrine, 27, of 16 W. Long Ave., after he allegedly assaulted a woman in a downtown home on Wednesday.
Police reported when they arrived the woman was lying on the floor of the entryway with another woman holding her. Officers said she told them she is five months pregnant.
A man there said he had tried to intervene when he saw Perrine choking the woman, but Perrine punched him in the face.
The woman went by ambulance to Ellwood City Hospital. She told police Perrine had punched her, pushed her against a wall, choked her and damaged her cell phone.
Perrine is charged with two counts each of simple assault and harassment and one count of criminal mischief. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

A South Side man accused of breaking into a neighbor’s vacant house is facing charges. Alex John Benkosky, 21, of 821 S. Mercer St. faces one count each of burglary, criminal trespass, flight to avoid apprehension and criminal mischief.
