NEW CASTLE —
Two men died after two vehicles collided Friday on Route 422 near the Ohio state line in Pulaski Township.
Township police said Robert W. Bacon, 62, of 2917 Guss St., Youngstown, was westbound in a green Ford Ranger pickup truck at 4:23 p.m. when his vehicle was hit head-on by a white Chevrolet Lumina driven by Justin Stone, 31, of 502 Eighth St., Mahoningtown.
Police said Stone, whose vehicle was eastbound, crossed the center turn line and into the westbound lane. The Lumina reportedly sideswiped a guard rail and collided with the truck.
The collision, police said, resulted in serious injuries to Stone, who was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. His passenger, Richard Kubik, 60, of Liberty Street, Mahoningtown, and Bacon were pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Russell S. Noga.
Assisting at the scene were the Pennsylvania state police accident reconstruction unit, Coitsville Township and Mahoning Township police and the Pulaski, Mahoning and Union township volunteer fire departments.
The highway remained closed for about five hours as traffic was routed to Evergreen Road and Route 208.
