NEW CASTLE —
A Mercer County man is facing rape and related charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman he met online.
New Castle police arrested Dennison Keith Wheeler II, 42, of Jackson Center in connection with the incident, which was reported the morning of June 6.
A woman reported she had been sexually assaulted by a man named “Allen” whom she had met online. She said the incident occurred at her house on the city’s South Side, and he left in a white Chevrolet Cavalier.
She gave police his license plate number and they tracked it to Wheeler’s name and address.
The woman told police Wheeler had assaulted her and her friend.
The woman said she had met Wheeler on an online chat website called “Live Links,” but did not know his real identity.
She said the incident happened when they had arranged to meet for the first time at her house at 8 p.m. June 5. She said she and her friend and Wheeler were listening to music until around 1 a.m.
She said she and Wheeler went into her bedroom and about 15 minutes later, her friend went in to smoke cigarettes with them for about 15 minutes.
The woman said she fell asleep and woke up around 3 a.m. lying on her stomach with Wheeler on top of her.
She said he was not wearing pants and tried to kiss her. She said he had lifted her nightgown and had sexual intercourse with her in different ways. She said she told him to stop. She said that after he left the room, she saw him go into her friend’s room alone with her and exit a few minutes later.
Police said they interviewed Wheeler June 14 and he gave them a statement, then five days later he went to the police station with a different account of what had happened.
Wheeler is charged with rape by forcible compulsion, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion, unlawful restraint and two counts of indecent assault without consent of others.
He was arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie and lodged in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond, pending a preliminary hearing Thursday.
