Man reports garbage bag thefts

NEW CASTLE — A South Side resident said he is perturbed about a man stealing people’s garbage bags after dumping out the contents.

“There’s a guy running through the neighborhood dumping out our garbage and stealing our blue bags,” said the man who lives near Lutton Street.

He said some neighbors have seen the man doing it and know his identity.

“This is the second time he’s done this,” the man said, adding he has called police but they never respond.

The man also is stealing the bags from curbs at St. Vitus and Division and Reynolds streets, according to the resident.

On Tuesday, he said, his garbage had been dumped between his house and a yard next door.

“It’s getting to be an everyday occurrence where he’s doing it,” he said.

New Castle Police Chief Bobby Salem said patrols were sent out a few weeks ago when they got a call about it. He said he had not heard of any incidents this week but would investigate it.
