Student allegedly assaults school staffers

NEW CASTLE — A Mohawk student is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a teacher, a security guard and a support staff member.

State police said the 15-year-old boy was being disruptive in class around 10 a.m. Monday and when teachers and aides tried to curb his behavior, he ran into the hallway.

The youth was stopped by his teacher, security officer and a therapeutic support staff member who tried to restrain him, but he punched, elbowed and bit them, causing them injuries, police said. After he calmed down he was taken to a secure room in the school.

Police said he is being charged by juvenile petition with aggravated and simple assault and harassment.

Superintendent Kathleen Kwolek said the district will look at the police charges and the circumstances of the episode and decide whether it needs to take other disciplinary measures.

“We will have our own investigation,” she said, which may or may not require a hearing for the student.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 fell from the sky in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. Many are speculating that Russian rebels (supported by Vladimir Putin) are responsible for downing the aircraft. What do you think?

Yes. All evidence points that way.
No. Everyone is so quick to point fingers, but there's not enough evidence to support claims of Russian guilt.
I'm not sure. I'll just wait until the investigation is over to make up my mind.
What is up with these Malaysian Airlines planes? I know one airline I won't be flying any time soon...
