Investigation continues in vacant house fire

NEW CASTLE — A vacant house on Chewton-West Pittsburg Road in Shenango Township has burned to the ground.

Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department chief David Rishel said when firemen arrived about 11 p.m. on Thursday, the two-story frame building was fully engaged. Firemen remained for about an hour.

Noting that the building has burned before, Rishel said he is calling the fire “suspicious.” He said the state police fire marshal and Shenango Township police are investigating.

The building is owned by Cemex Cement Co. Rishel said he had no damage estimate.
