NEW CASTLE —
A New Bedford man has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the death of an Ohio woman.
Stanley O. Shiderly, 62, of 760 Route 208 has been charged by North Beaver Township police after an accident that killed Judith Heaven, 68, of New Middletown, Ohio.
The accident occurred Jan. 11 at the intersection of Route 317 and State Line Road near the Ohio border.
A criminal complaint filed in the office of District Judge Jennifer Nicholson alleges that Shiderly was traveling north on State Line Road when he ran a stop sign at the intersection and collided with a westbound auto driven by Heaven’s husband, Ralph.
Judith Heaven died at the scene. Both Shiderly and Ralph Heaven were injured in the crash. Heaven was transported by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, while Shiderly was taken to Jameson Hospital, but not admitted.
The complaint said Shiderly had acknowledged to police he had failed to stop at the intersection.
In addition to homicide by vehicle, charges filed against him are aggravated assault by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, careless driving and failing to stop at a stop sign.
The intersection has been the scene of multiple accidents, and last week — at the prompting of the North Beaver Township supervisors — the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation posted additional signs to warn motorists.
