Woman faces child rape charges

NEW CASTLE — A homeless woman is facing charges by two police departments for alleged rape of a child.

New Castle police have charged Crystal Ann Thompson, 36, with rape of a child younger than 13, indecent assault, corruption of minors and related charges for an offense that allegedly occurred between 1999 and 2002 in the city’s Croton area.

Hickory police have charged her with rape of a person younger than 13, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person younger than 13, indecent assault of a person younger than 13 and corruption of minors for an incident during the same span of years that allegedly occurred in Hickory Township.

According to a New Castle officer’s report, police learned of the matter Dec. 23 while Thompson was at the Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County, where she told a state trooper she had raped a 9-year-old boy at a mobile home park in Hickory Township.

Hickory Township police interviewed her and she said she did not remember when, exactly, the incidents had occurred, but that it happened twice. After that, Lawrence County Children and Youth Services removed the child from her presence. Police said there are conflicting ages of the boy in her account.

Police contacted the children and youth services caseworker, who told them Thompson had been in and out of prison, according to reports.

Last month, police contacted the victim, who said that when he was a child, Thompson had unwanted sexual contact with him. The next day, the boy approached a school resource officer, asked to talk about the matter and said he wanted to pursue criminal charges against Thompson, according to police. He told officers that one of the incidents occurred in the city and the other, in Hickory Township.

He said he was between ages 4 and 7 when the incidents occurred, and that he has not had any contact with Thompson since April 2005.

District Judges Melissa A. Amodie and David Rishel have issued warrants for Thompson’s arrest.
