Police: Woman says she was assaulted near ‘stripper pole area’

NEW CASTLE — A Volant man has been charged with indecent assault for allegedly touching a woman inappropriately.

According to state police, Cameron Ray Smith, 21, of 679 Plain Grove-North Liberty Road was arrested after a woman complained of being groped at the Thunder in the Cascades event at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds early Sunday.

Police said they were summoned to the fairgrounds around 4 a.m.

The 40-year-old victim told police she had been at the “stripper pole area” when the alleged incident occurred.

She told police her attacker had been on the pole for about six songs when he reached back and touched her genital area.

The woman reported the incident to security at the event and identified Smith as the man who had touched her.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 5.
