Man jailed over robbery

NEW CASTLE — A Vandergrift, Pa., man is accused of robbing a Pollock Avenue residence and choking the woman who lives there.

Wayne A. Jentgens II, 49, of 1192 Jefferson St. is charged with two counts of robbery, as well as burglary, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment .

The woman, who lives in the 1200 block of Pollock Avenue, told New Castle police she had been sleeping and awoke about 9 p.m. June 24 to find Jentgens in her kitchen. When she confronted him, she told officers, he said, “Give me my money or I’ll kill you!” He began choking her, she continued, then released her, grabbed her arm and said, “Give me cigarettes and beer.” He then took a pack of cigarettes from her kitchen table and fled, the woman told police.

After he left, the resident went upstairs to her bedroom where she discovered a silver necklace and bracelet as well as several watches and rings missing, she reported.

The woman told officers Jentgens used to live in a Pollock Avenue house that had burned down.

Jentgens is in the county jail after District Judge Melissa A. Amodie set bond at $25,000. His preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
