Boy hurt in city accident

NEW CASTLE — A 9-year-old boy suffered head injuries in an accident Tuesday in New Castle.

Details were sketchy at press time, but the accident involving a car occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Canyon and Locust streets on the city’s West Side.

The child and his brother were riding bicycles when the accident occurred, according to New Castle Police Chief Bobby Salem, who was at the scene with other officers and city firefighters.

Salem said the boy suffered a head injury in the crash, but was unsure of the extent of his injuries. The name of the victim was not available.

The child was transported by ambulance to Jameson Hospital, then transferred to another medical facility by helicopter.

Police were still investigating the cause of the accident Tuesday evening and Salem had no other details. After the accident, the boy’s bike remained on the road with its front wheel smashed.
