Man arrested on gun, drug charges

NEW CASTLE — A North Hill man has been arrested for allegedly having a gun and crack cocaine in his possession.

New Castle police picked up 22-year-old Ryan Lawson of 101 E. Wallace Ave. around 12:30 a.m. May 30 while he was walking on Wick Avenue.  Officers recognized him as someone on the Lawrence County Housing Authority’s no-trespassing list.

Police said Lawson had a plastic bag containing rocks of suspected crack cocaine in his shorts pocket. The suspected rocks weighed in at 17.9 grams. Police said in Lawson’s backpack they found a Glock .40-caliber handgun loaded with one shell and an extended magazine. They also seized $170 in cash from his pockets.

Lawson is charged with possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, carrying a concealed firearm without a license, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and defiant trespass.

He was arraigned before District Judge David B. Rishel, who set his jail bond at $10,000. His preliminary hearing is set for June 24.
