NEW CASTLE —
Hickory Township police have turned a gun over to the New Castle police.
Hickory police chief Mike Vitale said a man who was walking his dog Thursday found the 9-millimeter pistol in a yard in the 2000 block of Eastbrook Road.
Police believe the gun had been thrown there following an incident in the city that turned into a pursuit that led officers into Hickory Township on Nov. 27.
New Castle police had been looking for the gun for about a week after Lee Marvin Denman, 22, of 3062 McClelland Ave., led them on the pursuit.
Police said Denman was driving on Ray Street and failed to stop for stop signs. When officers tried to pull him over, he sped away and they followed him out of the city onto Eastbrook Road, where he swerved across both lanes, then pulled to the side of McDowell Road.
Denman told police at the time that a group of men in the Crawford Avenue area had shot at him.
Police said Denman had outstanding warrants from Lawrence County Adult Probation and he was taken to jail. He was charged with two counts of fleeing and eluding officers, stop and yield sign violations and careless and reckless driving.
