Police: Man arrested after hiding in school classroom

NEW CASTLE — Police said a South Side man arrested on warrants was found hiding in a school classroom after a sporting event.

New Castle police reported that Marlon T. Mercer, 26, of 510 Waldo St., was at a basketball game at George Washington Junior High School around 8:20 p.m. Monday. Officers saw him inside the gymnasium and knew he was wanted on a domestic violence charge.

Mercer walked out of the gym into a hallway carrying a child, saw police and gave the child to another adult, officers said. He then walked away as officers told him to stop.

He then ran into a crowd, through a hallway door and turned a corner into an open classroom as police chased him, they said. Mercer gave himself up in the empty classroom and was arrested.

A customer near Pittsburgh was shot and killed as he tried to stop a bank robber from fleeing in his getaway car. What would you have done?

I would have tried to stop the crook too, regardless of the consequences. We need more heroes to end this madness.
Let him get away. You saw what happened in this case. However, I would try to get information to help police capture him. That’s THEIR job!
