Authorities investigate payments in Shenango Township

NEW CASTLE — Checks totaling nearly a half million dollars are part of a criminal investigation in Shenango Township.

The probe, being conducted by the Lawrence County District Attorney's Office, is focusing on checks issued to township secretary Brian Tanner and auditor Deno DeLorenzo.

Court documents show investigators were responding to information provided by the Pennsylvania Auditor General's Office that questioned checks issued on township accounts.

Information in a search warrant shows investigators are examining payments totaling $231,678.68 paid to Tanner and $221,838.12 paid to DeLorenzo.

Investigators said they questioned other township officials about the payments. They allegedly said they knew nothing about them or why they were issued.

Investigators indicate the checks involved were signed by Tanner with a second, stamped signature of the township supervisor chairman at the time.
