City man charged in sex assault case

NEW CASTLE — Indecent assault and other charges have been filed against a New Castle man accused of sex acts with a child.

New Castle police filed the charges against Anthony D. Spragling, 40, of 101 W. Wallace Ave. It’s alleged he had inappropriate contact with a girl on two separate occasions in recent years, the first time when she was 9 years old.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the office of District Judge Melissa Amodie, the victim told authorities Spragling had touched her inappropriately. Several years later, she said, he had sexual contact with her.

She also said he had offered her money in exchange for sex.

Charges filed against Spragling are indecent sexual assault of a person under 16, two counts of sexual assault, two counts of aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors and two counts of indecent assault of a person under 16.
