NEW CASTLE —
New Castle firefighters responded Tuesday morning to a burning coil cover at Hill Railroad Car Co. in Mahoningtown.
Fire officials said the foam insulation of the 70-foot-long cover was burning inside the building at 201 Power St. when firefighters arrived around 10 a.m. The foam was ignited by a torch that workers at the plant had been using, the department said.
The building was evacuated and because the fire was no threat to anything inside the building, firefighters let it burn itself out, according to officials.
Firefighters then cleared the building of smoke. Crews were on the scene for about an hour.
