Tornado touches down in the county

NEW CASTLE — A tornado reportedly touched down in New Beaver borough in southern Lawrence County Wednesday afternoon.

Initial reports indicated two barns were destroyed but there were apparently no injuries to people.

Initial reports indicated two barns were destroyed but there were apparently no injuries to people.

Police reported seeing the funnel cloud around 4:15 p.m. near the intersection of Routes 168 and Patterson Road.

Elsewhere in the county, everything from downed power lines to flooded and buckled road to lightning strikes were reported.

New Castle was hit hard with heavy rain that flooded streets throughout the city. Much of the flooding was in the downtown area while other problem areas were in Croton and the city’s east side.
