Crestview Gardens chase results in drug charges

NEW CASTLE — A city man facing 50 charges — mostly drug-related — is in the county jail on $75,000 bond.

Bryant Rodregus Binns, 21, of 1321 Pennsylvania Ave. was one of two men arrested early Thursday evening at Crestview Gardens.

New Castle police said they were summoned to Pin Oak Drive around 6 p.m. to investigate a trespasser. Officers said they spotted two men, one of whom they knew as Binns and the other later identified as Ameir Ade Reedus, 21, of Detroit, Mich.

According to police, the two men saw the officers and started to run. Police, who gave chase, said Binns fell into some brush. As he did so, officers said, he was observed tossing away items. After Binns was taken into custody, $225 was found lying nearby.

A canine officer was taken to the area and located a clear plastic bag that contained what police described as 22 “lottery folds” of heroin near where Binns had been apprehended.

Charges filed against Binns are one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, 22 counts of possession of a controlled substance, 23 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count each of resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension, disorderly conduct and defiant trespass.

As for Reedus, police said he ran through a wooded area, then entered the Parkwood Court section of Crestview Gardens. As police searched, they said, they spotted him leaving an apartment through a window and he was taken into custody.

Police charged Reedus with one count each of criminal trespass, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was lodged in the county jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.

Preliminary hearings for both Binns and Reedus are scheduled for Thursday.
